Last time, we were introduced to not one but two version of the Doctor - each one very different from one another and one of them met an unfortunate end after discovering a terrible, terrible secret. Now, the Chronarch is poised to head to another universe to, presumably, consume the Doctor of that universe as well.
Jenny is staring at a new man. She's naturally flabbergasted. Even having been briefed on regeneration, it's still a startling sight. More to the point, the TARDIS is currently crashing in spite of the lack of extreme damage seen at the end of The End of Time in the main universe. However, as he usually is after a regeneration, the Doctor is a bit scatter-brained and can't fly the TARDIS properly. Jenny, with her lack of experience, is unable to pilot the ship and braces for the inevitable.
. . .except that it never comes.
The TARDIS, suddenly, stops. A voice comes over the communicator, one that Jenny knows all too well - mostly because it belonged to the man who just burst into flame in front of her.
The Tenth Doctor comes up on one of the screens, quickly coaching Jenny through the rest of the landing process, giving her coordinates to follow and rematerialize at before letting their TARDIS out of the tractor beam from his TARDIS. She accepts happily and lands on what appears to be a desolate planet. Rushing out, she embraces the Tenth Doctor...who does not recognize her, and calmly explains that he's not her Doctor, but a Doctor from another universe entirely.
As the Eleventh Doctor is recovering from his regeneration, the Tenth explains just where he came from. He recounts a time paradox that nearly destroyed his universe that was started by means unknown. When everything was reset thanks to the efforts of himself and a certain dashingly handsome Time Agent, the Doctor had regained one of his lost regenerations and retained his memories of the event. While he did check on Jack (in secret), he soon became concerned with the holes in his reality that remained and decided to journey through them to find out what the cause was.
Thus, we'll be referring to this Doctor as "The Wolf Doctor", given his origins.
When the Eleventh Doctor - who we'll call "Jenny's Doctor" - awakens, he and the Wolf Doctor make mental contact. Unlike last time, where the Pete's World Doctor couldn't make contact with the Chronarch, they allow each other into their minds to compare notes. This gets Jenny's Doctor up and running quickly and he goes into the TARDIS to pick out a new outfit.
. . .yes, in any universe, bow ties are cool.
Elsewhere, we have another individual trying to live up to the legacy of the Doctor. When we last saw him, the Master was beginning to think he'd made a terrible mistake. As it happens, Adam's sociopathic tendencies are the least of his worries. A massive ship, one bearing the hallmarks of a Time Lord War TARDIS but on a much bigger scale, emerges and locks the TARDIS into a tractor beam.
Like with the Pete's World Doctor, a group of Judoon emerge on his TARDIS and put himself and Adam at gunpoint. Unlike the Pete's World Doctor, the Master isn't above combat in spite of his vow to try and uphold the standards of the Doctor. Unfortunately, he is defeated and both he and Adam get subdued and taken away.
Also unlike the Pete's World Doctor, the Master awakens to the sound of someone speaking to him. Hearing them in the ventilation shaft, they tell him to stay put. The Master doesn't listen to this, of course, and attempts to escape himself and find Adam. He actually manages to break out of the cell and disables his Judoon guard, taking his weapon and working his way out of the cells. Soon enough, he finds Adam, who apparently also worked his way out of the cells and is trying to escape. He claims to have seen the TARDIS and believes they can get out with it.
The pair make it into a larger chamber where they find several display cases. There are some familiar pinstripe suits, some jackets with bow ties, and so on...though the Master doesn't really realize what this is until he spies an outfit identical to that of the last Doctor he knew. The Master finds Adam holding him at gunpoint as the Chronarch makes himself known.
He laughs at the man he believes to be his counterpart, explaining his goals and declaring to the Master that his time in wandering the universe is over. The Chronarch activates the device to steal the Master's future incarnations...only for it to not work. It is keyed to the same genetic variations that the Chronarch has, being an incarnation of the Doctor, and the Master most definitely isn't an incarnation of the Doctor from any universe. As the Chronarch attempts to recalibrate the machine for all Time Lords, saying that he's done so before, the power goes out.
The Master finds himself suddenly grabbed in the darkness and pulled away. By the time the power comes back up, the Chronarch, Adam, and the Chronarch's assembled minions find themselves without him. The Master is running down a corridor with a familiar face - the Chronarch's, though this one is wearing a black leather jacket and seems a bit more worn and weary.
He explains he recently recovered from a regeneration after dealing with Rassilon and the return of the Time Lords in his version of The End of Time. Because of his origins, we'll call him the Roseless Doctor. The Roseless Doctor explains that gaps in reality were appearing even before Davros and the Daleks attempted to use the Crucible to annihilate all of reality. Things like the release of Fenric from his ancient prison or the Martha of his universe getting a device within the Void that allowed her to traverse universes.
When that threat was settled he, like another Doctor we've encountered, decided to go looking into the cause and discovered the Chronarch and his insidious plan to become the King of Time and Ruler of All Reality.
While he says that he knows the Master isn't a version of the Doctor, he may be the only one who can help him. The Master, though hesitant at first, agrees and escapes with the Roseless Doctor in his TARDIS just before the Chronarch's machines can lock it down. Adam declares that they can still catch the Master, which the Chronarch most definitely agrees with...a cruel, twisted smile coming to his lips as he tells Adam that he'll be a key part of doing so...
. . .and that's where we're leaving off with Part 2. We've got a lot of Doctors running around as the universes collide. Will they be able to stand up to the Chronarch and stop his insane plan of bringing all of reality under his yoke? Will there be even greater threats yet to come? Will there be even more intrusive cameos from within the multiverse?
Find out in Part 3...whenever that comes out!
