Last time, we had a bit of a cluster as a few different Doctors and even a Master teamed up against an evil that was extending its power throughout the multiverse, hunting down different incarnations of the Doctor and stealing their regenerations for himself. However, his plans were further reaching than even that, extending out into the multiverse with the intent to conquer every universe and become the King of Time itself.
Will the Chronarch succeed? Or will the Doctors (and Master) be able to save the day and all of reality itself? Let's find out!
We pick up with the Roseless Doctor and the Master in the former's TARDIS. The Master relates some of his own backstory to explain his situation after the Time War and Adam and what happened with him. Roseless Doctor barely remembers Adam from his timeline as a victim of a Dalek in Van Statten's Vault, but acknowledges that multiverse theory is a real pain in the real end. Given that the Master has molded Adam, they might be able to use that to their advantage in how Adam might assist the Chronarch, thus predicting what moves they might make.
Roseless Doctor also gives the Master a pep talk, telling him that it took him quite a while to get back to who the Doctor was himself. He promises to help him out with that and the pair head off to tail the Chronarch into another timeline.
Meanwhile, Jenny's Doctor, Jenny, and the Wolf Doctor have compared notes. The Wolf Doctor informs them of several universes he has traveled through, finding devastation in all of them, apparently having been attacked by something called 'the Chronarch'. Jenny's Doctor connects it to the Time Lords, thinking that they might have returned or a particularly powerful one could have potentially survived the War. The Wolf Doctor mentions, given the destructive nature of what happened in his universe, such a thing is possible...even if it wasn't impossible beforehand.
Jenny gets a headache.
Elsewhere, the Chronarch's forces arrive in a new universe, one where a great deal of chronographic distortions exist. The Chronarch recognizes the danger inherent - namely that this particular universe is so damaged that alterations of it could tear apart space-time. A universal and chronological scan through all time periods reveals no sign of the Doctor in this universe. When they are able to get a trace on a TARDIS having left through a dimensional rift, the Chronarch comes to a conclusion that yet another Doctor is pursuing him and attempting to stop him.
With no reason to remain in this universe, the Chronarch orders a pursuit course be laid in to go after the wayward Doctor. Just before this happens, however, someone teleports onboard the ship. It leaves the universe, plus one passenger.
The passenger in question? Captain Jack Harkness, who we last saw living a life without Torchwood in the Wolfverse. With the use of a device, Jack is able to appear as a Sontaran soldier under the direction of the Chronarch, blending in with the rest of the soldiery and trying to get his bearings. Unfortunately, while the Chronarch is unaware of his presence on the ship, someone is aware of it because they followed him. That someone being Dalek Caan and the Wolf, having survived the universal nigh-apocalypse in the timeline just left.
Having recreated a Dalek vessel and using humans being enslaved by heavily modified Cyber pods, the pair have tethered a tracer to Jack Harkness and have followed him to the Chronarch's ship. Using technobabble to stay hidden, Caan decides to pursue rather than attack immediately, wishing to see the abilities that the Chronarch has at his disposal. The vendetta of revenge against Jack Harkness will have to wait, something which greatly annoys the Wolf, even as it agrees with Caan.
So, as it stands, we have the Roseless Doctor and the Master pursuing the Chronarch, Jack pursuing the Chronarch, Dalek Caan and the Wolf pursuing Jack, and the Chronarch going after the Wolf Doctor.
Speaking of the Wolf Doctor, he and Jenny's Doctor are working to link their TARDISes into a network, preparing a telepathic message for other Doctors within the multiverse to gain assistance in deal with the Chronarch. With the links to their respective Eyes of Harmony working in unison, the three Time Lords journey off in the two TARDISes. They jump through a dimensional rift, and end up in another timeline...and their signal is responded to by TARDISes...dozens of them.
The scanner shows them around a familiar, burnt orange planet that is surrounded by scores of battle TARDISes engaging in battle with a fleet of Dalek saucers.
It's Gallifrey...and the Doctors (and Jenny) have arrived at the final day.
A transmission comes in. Rassilon, the living God and Lord President of the Time Lords, stands beaten and broken and asks if they've come to help.
The Doctors and Jenny are stunned into silence...
And that's where we're leaving off with Part 3. We have a cluster of people following people following people in between the universe while two Doctors and a Doctor's Daughter find themselves smack dab in the middle of the final day of the Time War...or have they?
Stay tuned for Part 4, where things really heat up...
