What If. . .the Doctor remained Time Lord Victorious? (Part 5)

Last time, several of the Doctors had been cornered on a Gallifrey in a universe where not only was the Doctor an evil chessmaster psychopath, not only were the Daleks facing off against a far more benevolent Rassilon, but the Chronarch had arrived to bring an end to the War once and for all. . .by destroying the Time Lords. Gallifrey was being swarmed and all was definitely not well. More to the point, there seemed to be some trouble onboard the Chronarch's ship as Jack is captured, the Wolf is killed, and Dalek Caan has ended up in the custody of the Chronarch.

Bad news bears, right? Let's see what happens next!

Jenny's Doctor and the Wolf Doctor get to helping with the planetary defense grid. Wolf Doctor proposes the theory to move Gallifrey and freeze it in a single moment in time to avoid its destruction - something that their counterparts would later (or earlier) use in their universe. While Jenny's Doctor believes it could be impossible, they thrive on that sort of thing and start getting plans together to do so.

Above, the Chronarch's ship commands a massive war fleet. Hiding in the shadows of it all are the Roseless Doctor and the Master, who have been sneaking about in the former's TARDIS. After picking up a transponder signal from the TARDISes of both the Wolf Doctor and Jenny's Doctor, Roseless decides to make contact with them. With the link established, however, the Chronarch is able to track the TARDIS and sends a group of Dalek ships after it, forcing them to flee.

The TARDIS makes it in just before Gallifrey's planetary defense shield comes back online, the Time Lords able to fight off the Dalek saucers that made it through the shield. All seems well, the Wolf Doctor and Jenny's Doctor getting the Roseless Doctor and the Master up to speed on their plan to move Gallifrey into a parallel pocket universe, the four of them working together to get the calculations correct.

The Chronarch has halted the assault on Gallifrey for the moment, attempting to figure out what his counterparts are planning to do. When he's worked it out, he brings the brunt of his forces down against the planetary shield. The Doctors and Master present on Gallifrey - baring the Chaos Doctor still in stasis - rush to get the job done. Just as they're about to put their plan into action, the planetary shield gets broken through. In the true Doctor Who fashion, switches are pulled and technobabble is given and then there is a flash of bright light and. . .all is quiet.

A light appears in the darkness, a doorway opening up in a way that some of the Doctors find very familiar. The respective Doctors and Master find themselves leaving their TARDISes and entering a beautiful garden, where a man in a white suit and an elaborate white hat is sitting and waiting for them.

They emerge to find a version of the Doctor that resembles their fourth incarnation as well, having already having been summoned here. As he is indeed working at the behest of the White Guardian, we shall call this one the Guardian Doctor.

The White Guardian explains to the gathered Doctors and Master that the activities of the Chronarch are threatening the stability of the multiverse to the point where even the Guardians of Time have taken notice and have decided to stop it. To do this, the gathered Doctors must gain the pieces to the Key to Reality, an artifact of even greater power than the Key to Time. With it, the Chronarch's timeline can be reset to its proper place and all the evil he has inflicted upon the multiverse will be undone. The Doctors and the Master, of course, readily agree.

Back with the Chronarch, the warship's sensors can no longer detect Gallifrey, meaning that the Doctors' plans worked. Despite an initial bit of rage, the Chronarch isn't too worried, believing that he'll get them eventually. With no Time Lords left to take the regeneration energy of, he orders his armada to move on to the next universe, tearing open a new wormhole.

. . .and just like that, Part 5 is done. The Doctors (and Master) are up for an epic quest with yet another alternate universe. Will they be able to retrieve the Key of Reality and stop the Chronarch? Will the Chronarch stop them? What interesting new things will we see in the alternate universes as I rip off Marvel's What If...? series long after they have already ripped off me?

Find out, starting in Part 6!
