What If. . .the Doctor remained Time Lord Victorious? (Part 6)

Last time, the Doctors and the Master were pulled away from a Gallifrey in distress by none other than the White Guardian, who tasked them not with seeking out the Key to Time, but instead to seek out an even more powerful artifact - the Key to Reality - to stop the Chronarch and his insane plan to consume and control all of Time itself in every universe. Will they succeed? Let's find out.

Oh, for everyone keeping score, we currently have...
For those not aligned with the main group, we have:
  • The Chronarch, a version of the Doctor who appears to have become the Time Lord Victorious. (resembling the Tenth Doctor)
  • The Chaos Doctor, a version of the Doctor from a universe where Rassilon was largely benign as we saw back in Part 4. (resembling the Seventh Doctor)

Got all that? Good.

Oh, and we also have Jenny from the aforementioned universe where she lived, we have Adam from the Master's universe running around in the employ of the Chronarch, we have Jack from the Wolfverse, and I think that's it. . .for now, anyway. Let's get into the actual plot.

As with the Key to Time, the Key to Reality is in six separate segments scattered around the multiverse. As in the original Key to Time storyline, the White Guardian can't send the Doctor to the specific locations where the pieces of the key are. However, he can tell them places to begin looking.

Thus, the groups break up into teams. Jenny and her Doctor end up traveling to a universe on Earth during the events of The Poison Sky, just as General Staal and his forces are making their move to take over the Earth using ATMOS. Despite at first trying to avoid the Doctor and the Donna of this universe, the pair end up teaming up with them to stop the Sontarans. Jenny gets a little closure about Donna, even though Donna of this universe hasn't met her yet, and best of all - Greyhound Forty, Private Ross Jenkins lives! The Key segment? That would be the converter the Doctor of this universe creates to disperse the ATMOS gas.

Farewells are had and Ross ends up traveling on with Jenny and her Doctor, joining in the quest for the Key to Reality.

The Roseless Doctor and the Master arrive in a familiar location to the Doctor - Shoreditch, 1963, during a Dalek invasion. The pair end up assisting that universe's Seventh Doctor and Ace in fighting against the Daleks, witness to him using the Hand of Omega to destroy the Dalek mothership and later abscond with the Dalek time controller - one of the hidden segments of the Key.

The Wolf Doctor ends up traveling to mid 2007 and a house called Wester Drumlins. Due to the events of it not having happened in his timeline, he is unfamiliar with what is to take place there. However, he is familiar with the Weeping Angels and is able to get Sally Sparrow's assistance in taking care of the threat that they pose, narrowly avoiding getting his TARDIS cannibalized by them as well as sparing himself a trip back to 1969. While Wolf Doctor extends her an offer to travel with him, Sally turns him down. He leaves that universe (taking the third segment - disguised as a video tape from his alternate self). . .only for a familiar Time Ship to appear in that same universe, having followed the trail of artron energy generated by the TARDIS and the Weeping Angels.

While the Wolf Doctor has gone, the Chronarch thinks that the Weeping Angels can be put to good use. Parlaying with them, the Time Lord Victorious tricks them into being locked in one another's gaze in the engine room - where we still hear the loud ringing of several Cloister Bells. . .and we know that very bad things are in the process of happening. . .

With an even higher powered Time Ship, the Chronarch follows the trail left by the Wolf Doctor. . .they will have him soon enough. . .

. . .and that's Part 6. The Chronarch is on the trail of one Doctor, but three teams have each retrieved a piece of the Key. But what of the Guardian Doctor? And will the Doctors be able to gather all of the pieces before the Chronarch catches on to what they're doing?

Find out next time. . .
