What If... Sam Winchester killed John Winchester? (Part 6)

Last time we glanced into this world, Dean Winchester had been torn apart by Hell Hounds. Unlike in the Prime Timeline, however, Dean's vampiric nature means that he was not taken to Hell after the fact. Heaven and Hell conspired on what to do next, Raphael decided that Heaven would take the lead on getting Dean Winchester to Hell so he can shed blood there and open the first seal. It seems that the Winchesters have, for now, won the day... but for how long?

Last time, we took another look into the world where Sam Winchester had shot the demon Azazel dead when the latter had possessed John Winchester during the events of Devil's Trap. On the latest part, Dean once more made the deal that would see Sam resurrected after being killed and the brothers teamed up with Bobby, Jo, and Ellen to stop Lilith and Ansem from opening the Devil's Gate.

As in the OT... they failed.

Also, it seems there's already some interplay between Heaven and Hell, as Lilith met with a grumpy Raphael to tell him that things were indeed back on schedule.

Last time we looked into a world where Sam Winchester had killed Azazel with the Colt during the events of Devil's Trap, we came to the end of the first part of the Season 2 finale. As in the original timeline, even without Azazel running the show, the psychic children were gathered up for a battle royale by Lilith.  This time, Ansem was the one who took home the gold by killing off the other kids, including Sam.

Last time, we took our first step into a world where the events of Devil's Trap played out very differently for the Winchester family. Namely, rather than hesitate and then shoot John in the leg, Sam shot John Winchester in the heart - killing both John and the Yellow-Eyed Demon in one blow, avenging the death of Mary twenty-two years prior.

On another world, in another time...three men were trapped in a cabin at the mercy of a demon. One of those three, possessed by the demon, was shot in the leg by a gun that could kill anything. The two other men, brothers, attempted to recover from the ordeal only to find the third man - their father - alive and struggling against the monster within.

"Sammy! It’s still alive. It’s inside me, I can feel it. You shoot me. You shoot me! You shoot me in the heart, son! Do it!"

"Sam, don't you do it. Don't you do it!"

"You’ve gotta hurry! I can’t hold onto it much longer! You shoot me, son! Shoot me! Son, I’m begging you! We can end this here and now! Sammy!"

"Sam, no..."

"You can do this! Sammy! Sam..."

In that world, in that time, Sam Winchester did not pull the trigger and shoot John Winchester in the heart. The demon, Azazel, would go on to open the gates of Hell itself. While he would eventually die at the hand of Dean Winchester, the damage was done. The opening of those gates was one of the first steps on the road to the Apocalypse.

But this is not that world, this is not that time...
