MadCap's Game Reviews - "Screencheat"

So, New Year's Eve saw me at Savannah's own Chromatic Dragon (if you're ever in the area, stop in. They have great shots along with food and games galore!) with Tina, and we had a grand old time playing this gem of a game. From developer Samurai Punk and brought to us by publisher Surprise Attack, Screencheat appears to be your typical first person shooter on the surface. It has several game modes you'd expect from a multiplayer FPS - Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Last Man Standing - as well as a few new ones such as Capture the Fun (just replace the llama pinata they give you with a flag and you already know what this is) and One Shot (it's exactly what you think it is). Nothing too special you might think, except for the title.

Screencheat.
Now, screencheating is exactly what it says on the tin - using your opponent's screen to suss out where they are and fire a variety of bullets into their face. Normally, this is discouraged highly by people as it's considered a full-on dick move. Screencheat, however, encourages you to do just that. As a matter of fact, it requires you to do that.

Screencheat has the character models invisible and intangible to all other players except for themselves. While you can see yourself, you can't see anyone else until you kill them. It's a very interesting change of pace and makes for a fun time as you scramble around the map having to watch not one, but all screens.

We had quite a lot of fun with this, going through multiple game modes. Most who have followed my blog will know that I'm not big on multiplayer games, and that is still true. However, that mostly applies to MMOs. Rather like Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation fame once put it, I'm fine with multiplayer as long as everyone is in the same room and therefore bound by the most basic rules of social etiquette. Thankfully, Screencheat provides.

Tina and I (and if we'd had two other players, they too would have) enjoyed several game modes with a variety of weapons - everything from a blunderbuss to a candelabra (which sometimes appeared as a katana for some reason) to an atom cannon - all with the condition that they could only be switched upon respawning.  Given how much Tina cleaned my clock during our matches, this happened far more often for me than her.

Also, a toy horse with a wooden sword. That one is wild.

I'd definitely recommend this game, as would Tina. It's mindless fun you can have with a couple of friends, something that doesn't require much thought or strategy. Go in, load it up, and go wild! There's a lot of fun to be had!

Screencheat is now available on Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch from Samurai Punk and Surprise Attack.
