From MadCap's Couch - "The Doctor's Daughter"

Finally, we have reached it. I honestly have mixed feelings about this episode that kind of muddle it up for me. Like I said last week, I do like it and I like the titular character...there's just some things that crop up in this episode that, while I doubt were intentional by the writer, nonetheless raise a few unfortunate implications involving consent issues.

Yeah, I'm going there. It really can't be ignored in this instance. The subtext is very rapidly becoming text.

I've delayed long enough, so let's get into The Doctor's Daughter.

MadCap's Game Reviews - "Hatoful Boyfriend"

. . .okay, so this is weird.

I don't usually go into visual novels. I acknowledge the medium as fulfilling the minimum requirements to be a game, but that's honestly as far as it goes for me. I don't have anything against them, they just aren't for me. However, Tina very strongly suggested that I do this (and I can also blame @KainYusanagi for this as well, being the perpetrator of the original reference).

So, will Hatoful Boyfriend change my mind on visual novels? Let's take a look!

From MadCap's Couch - "Doctor Who: The Poison Sky"

Ha ha! Series 1 reference!

So, last time we left off on a depressing note. Martha had been cloned and the world was going to be completely drowned in the noxious smoke coming from 400 million cars while a bunch of militaristic potatoes chanted feverishly.

We return to our apocalypse already in progress.

From MadCap's Couch - "Doctor Who: Planet of the Ood"

"I'm not dead! I'm getting better!"
"No, you're not! You'll be stone dead in a moment!"

So this is definitely an episode that happened. Yessiree, it sure did. Mmmhmm.

Oh, that's not me saying the episode is bad. Far from it. It's just one of those really weird ones where the Doctor being involved...wasn't really necessary. As in for the episode to work as a piece of fiction. This happens a few times in Doctor Who, most notably for me being this episode and in Revelation of the Daleks in the Sixth Doctor's era. We'll likely be getting into that another day, since it's one of the genuinely good episodes of the Colin Baker era on the show, but that's neither here nor there right now. Today, we're getting a visit from our squid-y squid squid friends, the Ood.

Now you might remember that, last time, the Ood went a little crazy and got possessed by the Devil for a bit. Cheeky little squids! I'm sure that this time, the Ood will only have the best of intentions and will absolutely not in any way be a-

From MadCap's Couch - "Doctor Who: The Fires of Pompeii"

Russell did what?!

The eruption of Vesuvius and the destruction of Pompeii is one of those big historical events that keeps popping up in fiction. It legitimately surprises me that it took until 2008 for Doctor Who to actually get there - on the actual show and not in spin-off material, anyway. Like with Martha's first trip in the TARDIS, Donna's is to the past: in this case, the titular Pompeii.
